What do the Different Colour Beacons Signify?

There are 3 main colours of beacon used on the roads in the UK. In each case, they are to warn you of a potential hazard that you will need to respond to. Blue lights signify emergency vehicles, green lights signify registered medical practitioners and amber beacons usually indicate slow-moving vehicles that may be larger or wider than usual.

Within the world of our plant hire and industrial beacons they come in 3 main colours:

Amber Beacons

Flashing amber beacons are commonly used to signal slow-moving vehicles and may be engaged in road maintenance work.

Green Beacons

Green beacons alert people on site to when a seatbelt is engaged and a piece of machinery is in operation. The green beacon is not on when the seatbelt is unplugged and flashes when the seatbelt is connected.

Purple Beacons

Machinery equipped with newer technology now includes an additional purple beacon. This beacon is linked to the electronic slew restrictor and illuminates when the restrictor is activated. It provides a clear visual indication to those nearby that the restrictor is in operation.

Slew machinery refers to equipment capable of rotating around its base or undercarriage, enabling horizontal movement.
